The goal of machine vision has always been to provide inspection that is beyond the capabilities of a human tasked with the same job. Through long-wave infrared sensitivity, we gain an insight into our world to where we would only be able to see the effects of otherwise.
Located in the 8-14 µm range, long-wave IR is one of 5 areas in infrared radiation and is typically associated with thermal night vision, but it has a wide application base in industry as well.
Applications such as hot spot detection are a popular way of using LWIR sensing that can be easily integrated inline or in test stations. As seen in the image above, observing the heat concentration of the hand tool will go a long way into determining its lifetime, performance, and safety to the user. Further inspection can be performed on parts while molding, soldering, sealing, sorting, and through process monitoring.
Want to learn more about how LWIR or other spectral analysis can be done on your parts and processes? Contact VMRA and see how our engineers can provide valuable insights into the world of vision.
